1. Shortie Short Shorts
Yeah, we love being young and we love showing off our young and artificially tanned legs! CAN'T BE TAMED! I have difficult feelings about shorts (particularly athletic shorts...yuck.) In my humble opinion, short shorts are far kinder and better proportionally than Bermudas, or even shorts that hit mid-thigh, but if I, a woman of 5 feet and 10 inches, wear a pair of very short shorts, the visual is this never ending strip of white leg. So, to be chopped off and accentuated where you need it least or be a never ending pair of legs? I just can't decide.
2. Floral Prints
Large floral prints are huge this spring, and for one my campus decided to get with it and hop on this fabulous trend. Well done, ladies! I still like little floral prints, as they are more feminine, but I like large prints better than I thought I would. Some are still gaudier than I prefer, but all in all a lovely spring trend.
3. Color
Yet another crazy awesome trend that's being embraced is color and lots of it! Not a lot of neon or color blocking, but people have been making some bolder color choices to liven up their t-shirts and jeans. I wish I was seeing more in the way of colored denim, but it's the Midwest and we're slow to catch on.
4. Dresses and Skirts
It's warm. Wear a dress! You have a speech today. Wear a dress! It's laundry day and you have nothing left! Wear a dress, wear a dress, wear a dress! Not to stereotype, but Catholic girls love their little dresses-complete with cardigan to cover those shoulders! I'm not a huge fan of the floral print dress with black leggings and a cardigan, but I can understand trying to make your wardrobe stretch as far between seasons as possible.
5. Blazers
I need to get one. Like ten minutes ago. Like ten months ago. I love all the colored and cute blazers that are cropping up over campus. I seriously hope the blazer will become more of a staple in a young woman's wardrobe, because you have no idea what it can do for you. A well cut blazer will accentuate your waist, broaden your shoulders and draw attention to your neck and face. What more can a girl ask for?
6. TOMS
I have serious shoe jealously. Love, want and need a pair. Painting and otherwise embellishing them is a big thing here. One of my favorite pairs of the one's I've seen is navy and the owner painted branches and leaves all over them. Super cute.
7. Twists
Words cannot adequately express how much I adore this hair trend. The braid was huge last season, and it was nice, but a little exclusive for those of us with short hair or who can't braid to save our lives. The twist is all-inclusive, super easy and looks absolutely amazing! It's also the best way since the Snooki-Poof to hide those stupid bangs you're growing out.
8. Sandals
Hmm. I'm a flats girl, but I'm a little disappointed by how many people are wearing last season's sandals. Seriously? This season has so much more to offer your, from wedges to boat shoes to oxfords, I'm hoping people will start picking up on shoe trends other then 'the return of the jellies'. *Shudder*
9. Flowing Tops
YES! Finally! I am so sick of skin tight tops. Even when this trend dies down, I'm never going back to my drawer of tiny t-shirts that are only flattering on people with rock hard abs and no boobs.
10. Bold Nail Color
Pink! Green! Yellow! Blue! Great and interesting nail color, nail art and even the occasional decal. Right now, my nails are a neon pink I stole from my roommate. It doesn't match my outfit at all, but I love them so I don't care.
A blog about rain, pinapples, perspective, crayons and everything in between.

May Be Meant to Be
Socks and shoes
Me and you
I puzzle how many pairs of things that
Supposedly go together
Were forced together and simply learned to coexist?

What Girls and Guys on My Campus Are Wearing -Winter Edition!
1. North Face. UGH. Do these come in any color other than ugly? If they aren't boring black, they are this hideous fuchsia. I know they must be warm... but seriously? Everyone, guys and girls alike. They're seriously not that flattering.
2. Uggs. Double ugh. I loathe these boots. They are so ugly and when they get ratty and nasty... I literally cringe at the sight. Again, I understand the importance of warmth and utility, I really do. But this is uncalled for. Swear by their unsurpassed comfort all you like, but I will never, ever wear a pair.
3. Mittens. Love these. Particularly the ones that have the fingerless gloves and then the mitten part folds over. So cute and perfect for texting.
4. Tights. Sadly these are all too rare, but I feel like giving the select stylin' few their due.Very nice, ladies. I'm impressed. And jealous.
5. Pea coats. I particularly love the brightly colored ones! The pink, teal and mustard ones were my favorites. I had to stop myself from staring. There is one guy on campus who has a lovely gray pea coat and let me tell you- that kid looks sharp. Take notes, boys. Nothing is more swoon worthy than a man in a nicely cut coat. Except maybe a man in a good hat...
6. Muckluks. Okay. I don't know why, but these are so much cuter than Uggs. I hesitate to call them stylish, but I don't violently loathe them or feel vaguely nauseated when I see them.
7. Scarves. There are not words that can express my affection for, devotion to and adoration of the scarf. The cuteness is so intense it's painful. At least once or twice a day, I see someone wearing one I am positively enamored with. I regularly steal my roommate scarves because she has a lovely collection she never wears. Feminine, smexy and warm. What more can we ask for?
8. Hoodies. I have a complex relationship with the hooded sweatshirt. I feel it is a reprehensible article of clothing that much of the undergraduate population uses to get away with not caring. Yet I must admit they are warm and, in some cases, appropriate. But when you use them as gym wear, your outfit for class and your coat... I just feel like you're limiting yourself. And failing to flatter any curves you might have.
9. Sweatpants. I own one pair and that is too many. Wear them with a hoodie and you just look sad. Like the poster child for despair. "I've given up on any fabric that isn't cotton. My depression is too deep for even denim." I really don't mean to sound like a total and absolute snob. Wear them if you like. You might even by some miracle look half way decent in them. You are free to wear them and I am free to despise them and feel sorry for anyone wearing them, much less that poor smuck I see wanting campus all too often wearing the North Face, a hoodie, sweatpants and Uggs. That's just too much sin for any man or woman to carry around on their person.
10. Trapper Hats. Which always make me think of Kingsley. Which is an excellent connotation. Plus, it's the fake fur trend which somehow looks so fab on everyone else but I have no desire to adopt it myself. Meh. It happens.
2. Uggs. Double ugh. I loathe these boots. They are so ugly and when they get ratty and nasty... I literally cringe at the sight. What Guys and Girls On My Campus Are Wearing
On my college campus, I see a lot of hoodies and sweatpants and other typical college wear, but there are a few things that it honestly seems like every single kid and his girlfriend are wearing.
1. TOMS. I'm not kidding. They haunt me. Everybody has a pair and I feel massively left out. Next time I stumble across $40 I'll be sure to buy a pair.
2. Battered Flip-Flops. From the guys and their ugly Adias ones (it gets worse... they wear socks with them) to the girls and their thin strappy flip flops that should have been thrown away three seasons ago.
3. Destoryed T-Shirts. For some reason my fellow students think they can make the t-shirts the college gives them for free cuter by cutting out the arm pits and fraying the edges.
4. Moccasins. As you can see, there is a lot of variety in the footwear on this campus. I have seen many, many cute pairs shuffling by.
5. Crop Tops. Before it got freezing, a lot of girls were wearing cropped tops. I actually like the looser cut crop top. They seem more relaxed and less revealing then the skin tight 90ties cropped top.
6. Black Yoga Pants and Leggings. I have seen so many panty lines through these black beauties this week, it's not even funny. And they're ALL black. I've seen like... maybe one gray pair? They're not that comfortable, people.
7. Floral Prints. So cute. I'm seriously jealous. Skirts, dresses, shoes, scarves... the flower children abound.
8. A Wrist Full of Bracelets. They were all doing this awhile ago with this horrible rubber braclets advertising everything under the sun and now it's with rope and beaded bracelets. Granted, that is a huge improvement. I'm not complaining.
9. Skinny Jeans. No colored ones though. I'm kind of disappointed. The flare trend really hasn't caught on here yet.
10. Colored Hair. We have a lot of fun pink streaks, deep brunettes and highlighted blondes. Everyone decided to dye their hair. I confess, I helped one of my friends but a reddish purple streak in her hair. And it looks awesome.
So there you have it. For better or for worse, that's what kids around here are wearing. We have some lovely fashion forward ladies and lads here also, whose outfits I admire from a far and in general, we're a decently dressed campus... I only see pajama pants in the residence halls and on weekends.

My Suitcase and Me... Not To Mention You
Are you any good at packing? I am not.
Whenever I am forced to leave my happy haven (and yes, it is usually by force) I make a nice little list, plan the trip out outfit by outfit, complete with jewelry, shoes and color coordinating eye liner. Then, I carefully collect each item and painstakingly pack it into a ridiculously large suit case. I leave for three days and I need a small whale-like vessel to hold the earthly possessions I just have to have with me at all times. It takes me several hours. I wander here and there, getting things in order in between painting my nails, writing a journal entry and having a snack.
It should be confessed that I am actually not a very organized person. I do plot, plan and list things but I definitely do it to the beat of my own drum. My closet/room is a disaster area. My desk is coated in papers, clothing, empty glasses, pens that may or may not work, the last three books I read, a pair or two of earrings, an assortment of Cd's, a few bottles containing anything from water to nail polish, hundreds of lists, receipts, gum wrappers and other bits and pieces I could have just thrown in the trash can that lives inches away with the same amount of effort.
When it comes to packing, there is no exception to my usual tidiness and precise organization. I make a list that I write sloppily, resting the paper against my leg or the textured wall, embellishing it with doodles and notes as I see fit. I wade through my closet and compare outfits and try to select something based on where I am going, who is going to be there, what I'll be doing, what is actually clean in my closet, the weather, my mood and a host of other variables that may or may not actually be in that order of importance. Then I shift everything around in a suitcase and find I've forgotten something vital, like pajamas or my toothbrush. So I find a pair of PJ's, but I'll need to brush my teeth tomorrow morning, so I throw a note to remember it on my list. And suddenly, I remember that song I've been wanting to look up online, so I run and do that. When I come back I reprimand myself to focus and throw some body splash in the case... but what scent? The Bath and Body Works would be good for Sunday, but they'll never work for Monday. And I'm still not packed, but it's 11:30 PM and I'm tired and we have to leave early in the morning... so maybe I'll just... Zzz.....
When it actually comes down to it (aka, we're leaving in fifteen minutes) I suddenly become an efficient packing machine. My decision time is cut down to one minute instead of seven. Everything can go in at once, because there is no chance I will need it again before we go. I throw in an extra shirt "just in case" (I live in fear that I will somehow ruin an article of clothing and have absolutely nothing else and be forced to borrow something from my Grandma.) I zip up the case while I sit on it to press down my sweater, hair straightener and everything in between. Lugging it down the steps, I frantically try to call to mind anything I may have forgotten. Belt? Check. Book? Check. Mp3 player? Shoot, forgot to charge that...
I shove it into the last available space in the vehicle (cute thing about having the biggest suitcase of anyone? I also am the last person to have it ready. Meaning everything else has to move just for mine to fit.) and relish in a vague sense of relief and a not so vague sense of anxiety. I survived! I remembered my toothbrush! I can't put anything else in there now! What if I forgot something!?
Finally, as we are pulling out and the doors are locked and there is absolutely no way for me to pack/do/worry about anything else for the moment, I breathe again. Once begun is half done, right? We will be home... soon...
I wrote some of this on the eve of my leaving. So, in other words, I sat down and typed half of a blog post with my list at my side and a partially packed suitcase in my room. Shameful, I know. But I didn't want to leave without posting anything, which I ended up doing anyway, because I got on a roll and I couldn't bare to just tie this up prematurely! My deep failure, I confess.
I missed blogging very much. I would see things or think things or do things that just begged for a blog post and my fingers ached for a key board.
Well, no matter. We are reunited again. And now all I have to worry about is everything I left behind undone... not to mention my unpacked suitcase sitting taking up space on my floor.
Ah, it's good to be home.

Pick Up The Pieces
A few preliminary things to say today. Then I'll get on to the long winded ramble I've been craving. Now would be an excellent time to take a nap... just leave this page up and take a little snooze until someone or something jolts you awake and you can pretend you were reading it. I won't tell anyone.
I got my cowgirl boots yesterday! Now I can pretend I'm actually a genuine article, real live boot-scooter!! I just have to master the scooting without falling over part... To be honest, they are a little more "I'm a country girl wanna-be" then "I'm an honest to goodness country girl" boots, but I really am just a wanna-be... and they're sooo cute...
Shout out to my dear friends at Katie-Isms. They were so good as to post a poem of mine. Lots of cool stuff over there. I shamelessly recommend you follow.
Ah... long winded ramble time!
I am a puzzle.
Don't look so surprised. You're a puzzle too, silly.
People are puzzles. (Aliens might be too...) I would go so far as to say that anything or anyone with a personality is a puzzle.
If you have ever put together a puzzle, you know that it is generally helpful to start with the corners and the outside frame. These are the obvious pieces. I am Anna. I am seventeen. I have brown eyes. I am tall. These pieces frame the puzzle and give you a vague idea of what it looks like, but they don't make the picture.
Next, you embellish on those corners a little. These give you more perspective on the picture. These pieces are "getting to know someone". Close, but not too close. Near the surface, but not superficial. This is, perhaps, the foundation of friendship. You would probably need to know a little more about me than the fairly obvious to be my friend. You would need to know what I like, what I don't like, what I do and that sort of thing. I like pink. I don't like snakes. I play the piano (badly, I might add).
Then, you're a row or two deeper in the puzzle. This is the fun stuff. You are starting to see it come together! You're not even half way there, but you still have energy, determination and you're still having fun! This is the treasure trove. Those cool, neat, amazing parts of people you never would have thought they had. The parts you only ever get to see if you dig a little deeper. Their opinion. Their world view. The crazy talents they have. Their dreams and hopes and wishes and their favorite song.
But just a step away are those middle pieces. The ones you really, really hate if you're working on a puzzle of something like an ocean, or a sky or something else where everything is the same color and pretty much looks the same. (Like a zebra.) These are the tedious pieces. The not so pleasant pieces. Here's where the annoying habits, the unattractive qualities, the obnoxious bits of us that make us ever so human are. If you know these things about someone, you are either married, really good friends or siblings. These are the parts a lot of us try to hide. And for good reason- they're not very pretty.
Then you have the center pieces. Those ones leading up to the last piece. The soul of the puzzle. The core. These are the pieces that make me Anna and you whoever you are. The pieces no one else has. Someone else is named Anna. Someone else doesn't like snakes. Someone else is a real jerk before they've had their coffee in the morning. Just like me. But nobody else has my heart, my soul, my core, my being. That's mine. This radiates from the inside out, affecting everything else about me, but this is what make me me.
Most of us don't really know the core anymore. Not even of our own puzzle, much less someone else's. It takes a lot of time and effort to make it there. Time we think we don't have. Effort we don't make anymore. People used to do that, you know. Get to know one another? Put together puzzles? Heck, yes.
Now we hardly know our own.
My point, my plea would be to try it. Invest in other people. Pay attention. Every time you have any interaction with another person, you're giving and receiving pieces. You'll be surprised, I can guarantee you. People are worthwhile.
Pick up the pieces.

My point, my plea would be to try it. Invest in other people. Pay attention. Every time you have any interaction with another person, you're giving and receiving pieces. You'll be surprised, I can guarantee you. People are worthwhile.
Pick up the pieces.

My Favorite Sport
Behold... The Boots of My Desiring.
Aren't they gorgeous?!? I was looking for a new pair of little black flats and these beauties caught my eye. I'm thinking they are a definite need. Look at those! They'll peek out from under a pair of jeans or dance beneath a ruffly skirt and just be generally adorable.
And they would go perfectly with the Cowgirl Hat I have so long dreamed about, but have yet to find. Oh but believe me, one day... one day... I shall find that perfect hat. And when I do, you all shall be informed and photographic evidence provided
I suppose this would be a good time to talk about my favorite sport. If you are wondering how on earth that relates to anything, you are either a man, far too narrow minded about sports or both.
My favorite sport is shopping.
Oh! How I love to shop! I am, after all, just a little women.
Deals make my heart go double time, I love the thrill of the hunt for that perfect item and really, how can one resist a good sale? A cute top is love at first sight and a new pair of jeans makes me weak in the knees. The aisles of clothing racks are my playing field and a loaded wallet my weapon (based on how often I have to reload, I might be a little trigger happy, but you never know unless you buy!)
My idea of fun is scouring the Internet for cute gowns and other things I would never really buy... but it's good to know what's out there, just in case, right? (I know what dress I'm wearing if for some reason I am ever crowned queen. Very useful information.)
Like any sport or hobby, it has it's expenses, but a shirt is so much more useful than a football! Besides, I have yet to see a football that makes you look as fabulous as a well cut blouse. Clothing is just so necessary, useful and wonderful!
I do try to limit myself... I only make minimum wage, after all. And to be honest, I am quite picky. But when something like this catches my eye... it's usual only a matter of time till I succumb, powerless against adorable clothing.
And after all... they are really, really cute boots.
